Baja Discovery Tour
Join us as we take you to some of the most remote mountains and gorgeous coastline riding anywhere! We will be riding through some of Northern Baja’s mountain roads and then flip to paved roads along the coast to some of Baja’s most quaint destinations and awe inspiring scenery. The off road riding sections will be friendly enough for you to ride a larger bike (BMW 1200 GS as an example) loaded with your own luggage for the trip. For this trip we will stay in all hotels so your luggage needs can be reduced to clothes and personal items. Tacos and beer is the saying…and it’s true! The fish taco originated in Baja…or at least it makes sense that it would have. We will have ample opportunity for fish tacos and numerous other culinary options that are special in Baja!

Come train, ride and attend one of the largest off-road vehicle and motorcycle events in the country as we take you through some of the best scenery in the Southwest as we cover sections of the New Mexico and Arizona BDR’s!
We will meet up in Grants New Mexico for the official start of the tour, leaving Grants New Mexico mid-morning.
Day 1 Monday May 8th
Grants to Alpine = 170 miles about 90% off road
From Grants we will follow the New Mexico BDR route into Luna. We open up in Zuni Canyon on Zuni Canyon road to some immediate spectacular canyon views. Great time early for some photo shots. We transition out of the canyons into some really nice old jeep two track hunting roads. We’ll wind our way through the timber and climb in elevation before dropping down to ranch land get to our next section. We’ll continue on some public and some private ranch land exploring some of the stretches between mountain ranges. We will make our way to Luna and say good bye to this awesome section of the New Mexico BDR. From Luna we will take a nice short twisty paved road into Alpine where we will stop for the night.
Lodging: Mountain High Lodge
Day 2 Tuesday May 9th
Alpine to Camp outside Clifton = 135 roughly
Today will be about 50/50 off road and pavement
From Alpine we will start outside town on a dirt road that will wind us some 50 miles or so through some great roads, scenery and local campgrounds. This road lends itself to a lot of outdoor activity including camping, ATV riding, hunting and much more. After our stint on the dirt we hit the pavement again where we open up to the vast beauty Arizona’s mountains bring! This stretch of pavement on HWY 191 is one of the most scenic stretches in Arizona. We wind our way into Morenci where we are treated by one of the largest copper mines in the country and in the world! Certainly a fascinating site and we will have ample opportunities for photos along this stretch. Depending on our time frame we may be able to make our way down Lower Eagle Creek Road to an old abandoned church site. The scenery continues to awe us and the road is fantastic. If we are able to this it will be an in and out section so we will make our way back out to HWY 191. After that we will make our way into Morenci and stop at Bashas’ market for dinner and breakfast supplies for our camp out this night. We will make our way outside Clifton on the Black Hills Back Country By-Way to our campground for the night. This is a primitive camp with a toilet. We will need to bring our own food and water.
Lodging: Camping outside Clifton
Day 3 Wednesday May 10th
Black Hills Back Country By-Way camp to just outside Young campsite = 160 miles
The day will start and end with dirt but we do have a long stretch of Highway miles to get to the Arizona BDR
From our camp outside Clifton we will make our way out of the Black Hills Back Country By-Way and hit the pavement towards Globe. Once we get into Globe, we will get dinner and breakfast supplies again at a grocery store and head into the hills for some camping again. As we exit Globe we make our way through saguaro cactus fields and out of the desert into the alpine mountains to our campsite.
Lodging: Camping outside Young
Day 4 Thursday May 11th
Young campsite to Flagstaff OX 165 miles
We will be on dirt almost the entire day except for the pavement run into Flagstaff for arrival at OX headquarters
From our campsite in Globe we will continue to follow the Arizona BDR. We have the pleasure of riding across the top of the Mogollon Rim. Breathtaking views off of high canyon walls give way to some more amazing Arizona mountain scenery. We’ll wind our way through some more easy graded dirt roads and finish the dirt portion of the ride on some two track ranch land roads that provide miles of smiles! Once we hit the pavement, it is on to the Expo!
Lodging: Campsite at Overland Expo
